The Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Library Management, Automation & Networking (PGDLIMAN) is an autonomous programme of MES’s IMCC. It aims at developing the professional competencies of the library and information professionals in an automated and digital library networked environment.

The program focuses on in-depth practical sessions for building the technological skills of the students supported by required sessions on the theory, in order to develop them as an independent library manager who will manage the library in the new era successfully.

The Libraries today are impacted tremendously by the digital and networked environment. ICT has a major impact on the storage functions and delivery of information in the library. The task ahead is a major challenge to handle the voluminous data in the digitized form and to manage it successfully for serving the user segments in an effective manner.

About MES’s IMCC

IMCC is a premier Management Institute, which is recognized by Savitribai phule Pune University & Approved by AICTE New Delhi to conduct MCA programme. IMCC also conducts University affiliated PGDBM & DTL programs. IMCC is recognised Ph.D. Research Centre under the Faculty of Management, Savitribai phule Pune University. IMCC has 34 years standing & it is well-known for conducive educational atmosphere.  More than 500 students of IMCC are working on vantage positions in Industry in countries like India, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany & Japan.

Two spacious COMPUTER LABS with appropriate furniture with 90 computers duly networked with UTP cables is connected to HUBS in server room. Proper false ceiling, modular lighting, fans, curtains and ventilation are provided. A separate research Laboratory with 5 High End Computing Machines is available for testing new hardware, software and research work. School campus agreement is made with Microsoft under the umbrella policy with MSDN. Microsoft Volume License Agreement covers Visual Studio, Office, Windows Server and Windows Xp. Additional Licensed software available viz. WIN NT 4.0, NOVELL NETWARE 4.11, WIN 98, ORACLE, VISUAL BASIC, C++, JAVA, LINUX is installed on server and nodes to meet the curriculum needs of the courses.

About the MES IMCC’s Library & Information Resource Centre

The Library of MES IMCC, Pune was established in the year 1983. The period from 1996 and onwards can be considered as the metamorphosis period for the IMCC Library.  Library has focused on the embedded librarianship model and thus the purpose of a library is to disseminate knowledge by providing customised library service packages especially to the faculty members and research scholars. The library is providing 12.00 hours daily service to the variety of user segments including faculty members, students and also to MES’s Management members. The library is enriched with the printed and non-print collection focused on the Management and Computer Science. At present the library is providing easy access to e-documents such as University question Papers, Syllabi, and Summer Projects through the Digital Institutional Repository created by using d-space. It also provides access to on-line databases such as ASPP (IEEE) and also the INFLIBNET’s N-List database . The library is fully computerised and has successfully implemented the Library software system (SLIM 21: Version: 3.4.0) .The library uses auto transaction mode for the Library Documents Transaction purpose through the effective use of bar coded collection and of users cards.

Programme Objectives

The objectives of the programme are as follows:

·               To imbibe the knowledge of the basic requirements of library automation  and automated library services with the major focus on Open Source Library Software systems such as D-space and KOHA;

·               To provide the knowledge and skills on networking and Internet technology in particular to the library and  information networks

·               To develop the Internet skills with special focus on the information resources available in different forms and subjects;

·               To provide the knowledge and skills of web designing and the legal issues associated with electronic information;

·               To enable the design and development of a programme by enhancing skills on programming based on the language C++;

·               Undertake a practical based project in order to specialize in one of the thrust areas on library automation and networking.

Programme Duration

The duration of the Programme is one year. 

Program Designed for whom?

The Programme is of high benefit to the qualified Librarians and all other working library professionals as well as the budding LIS candidates interested in upgrading the ICT Knowledge, skills and its effective application in the current automated and networked library environment.

Eligibility

The programme is open to candidates with a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science (BLISc).

Programme Fee

Rs.20,000/- (Rupees Twenty thousand only) for the entire programme in one installment. The programme fee should be paid only by way of Cash/Cheque/Demand draft can be drawn in favor of MES Institute of Management & Career Courses (IMCC) payable at the Pune.
